Our next Production: “Piccadilly Jim”

We have now received Treasury approval for Piccadilly Jim, which is due to be filmed on the Island between 24th November to the 19th December 2003. Filming will take place at Island Studios in Ramsey for the most part. The film is based on the P G Wodehouse novel of the same name. The principal cast is Sam Rockwell (The Green Mile, Charlie’s Angels) Brenda Blethyn (Secrets and Lies, Little Voice) Tom Hollander (Gosford Park, Enigma) and Tom Wilkinson (Girl with a Pearl Earring, Shakespeare in Love)

 

“The Heart of Me” actress Olivia Williams Wins Award

Olivia Williams has won the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a British Independent Film for her role in ‘The Heart of Me’, which was produced in conjunction with the Isle of Man Film Commission. The award was presented at the British Independent Film Awards held at Hammersmith Palais, Hammersmith, London on 4th November.

‘The Heart of Me’ was filmed on the Island in 2001 and also stars Helena Bonham Carter and Paul Bettany. The story follows two sisters in the 1930’s.

 

Release date for “The Gathering”

The release date for “The Gathering”, shot on the Island,  has still not been set. It was filmed on the Island in 2001 and stars Christina Ricci. Marc Samuelson, the producer of the film, explained that the film had been sold to US film giant Miramax, which he said had a backlog of films waiting for release.

 

Everyone’s gone!

Our most recent productions Island at WarThe Legend of the Tamworth Two and You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me have all finished filming on the Island. Island at War were on the Island filming for about two months and will continue shooting in the UK until December 2003. The Legend of the Tamworth Two were here for about 3 weeks but had to keep their pig unit here for longer than expected when the pigs wouldn’t do as they were told! Feature film You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me was here for 3 weeks.

We will update the site with dates and times of showings for the two TV productions once we have received them.

 

Prince Andrew visits set of “Island at War”

Whilst HRH Prince Andrew was on the Island he made a trip to the set of Island at War which was based at Kentraugh House in Gansey. Whilst there, he also met the producer of the drama, John Rushton, along with MHKs Alex Downie, Leonard Singer and the Isle of Man Film Commission’s Hilary Dugdale and Nick Cain.

 

“You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”

Filming commenced on the latest movie to be made in conjunction with the Isle of Man Film Commission with a cast list including Dougray Scott, Emilia Fox, Jimi Mistry and Billie Piper.

Written by Patrick Wilde, the movie is based on Dutch film All Stars, which was adapted into a TV spin-off and went on to win the International Emmy in 2000. It is centred around a group of young people ‘trying to avoid adult life and responsibility’.

 

Award Nominations for “The Heart of Me” actresses

Actresses Helena Bonham Carter and Olivia Williams have both been nominated for Best Actress by the 2003 British Independent Film awards for their role in ‘The Heart of Me’ which was produced in conjunction with the Isle of Man Film Commission.

In addition to this, Romola Garai has been nominated as Most Promising Newcomer for the her role in ‘I Capture the Castle’, which was also produced in conjunction with the Isle of Man Film Commission.

Created in 1998, the British Independent Film Awards set out to celebrate merit and achievement in independently funded British filmmaking, to honour new talent, and to promote British films and filmmaking to a wider public. Last year, Manx film ‘The Lawless Heart’ was nominated for five awards, including best film and won one for best screenplay.

The British Independent Film Awards will take place on November 4th 2003 at Hammersmith Palais, Hammersmith, London.
