The Libertine, filmed on the Island in April 2004, has been nominated for 8 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), with Johnny Depp competing for the best actor prize. BIFA 2005 will take place on Wednesday November 30th at The Hammersmith Palais, London.

The Libertine is based around the life of the 17th Century poet John Wilmot (played by Johnny Depp), who received posthumous acclaim after living a debauched life. The film was shot in Island Studios, Ramsey after the UK Government closed its tax break and the film nearly cancelled before Isle of Man Film stepped in to fund production. It is due for UK release on 18th November.

Best Performance by a Supporting Actor or Actress in a British Independent Film – Rosamund Pike and Tom Hollander

Best Technical Achievement – Ben van Os (Production Designer)

Most Promising Newcomer – Rupert Friend

The Douglas Hickox Award – Laurence Dunmore (Gaby Dellal is also nominated for this award for On A Clear Day)
